    Sorting and ordering

Control how work items are ordered on the board. Sort by any field in ascending or descending order, or switch to manual rank to drag work items into the exact position you want.

Without sorting configured, BetterBoard orders work items by their Jira rank — the default order Jira uses across the backlog and board views. This order is shared with Jira’s native boards.

    1. Open Display settings
    2. Go to the Order by section
    3. Select a sort field from the dropdown
    4. Use the direction icon to the left of the dropdown to toggle between ascending and descending order
    5. Click the blue Save button in the toolbar to apply

Any field with a comparable value works as a sort field:

    • Priority: sorts by the defined priority order (Highest → Lowest)
    • Assignee: alphabetical by display name
    • Due Date, Created, Updated: chronological
    • Story Points, number fields: numeric ascending/descending
    • Status: by workflow order as defined in Jira
    • Labels, text fields: alphabetical

Manual rank lets you drag work items into a precise order within each column. Unlike sort-based ordering, manual rank positions are saved per-board and persist across sessions.

    To enable manual rank:

    1. Open Settings → Sorting
    2. Toggle Manual rank on
    3. Sort criteria are disabled while manual rank is active
    4. Drag work items to reorder them — the new order saves automatically
