    Board visibility

Every BetterBoard board is either shared or private. Visibility controls who can see and use the board within a Jira space.

A shared board is visible to everyone who has access to the Jira space. Anyone on the team can:

    • See the board in the board switcher
    • View all work items on the board
    • View and edit the board configuration (columns, fields, filters)

Shared boards are ideal for team standups, sprint reviews, triage queues, and any workflow where the whole team needs the same view. Only the board owner can make a shared board private.

A private board is visible only to you. It doesn’t appear in the board switcher for other team members.

    Private boards are useful for:

    • Personal filters (e.g. “My open work this sprint”)
    • Experimental configurations you’re still testing
    • Views combining data from multiple spaces that only make sense in your context

Toggle visibility using the privacy icon next to the board name in the toolbar. The change takes effect immediately.

When you make a private board shared, it immediately appears in the board switcher for all space members. When you make a shared board private, it disappears from the switcher for everyone else instantly. Only the board owner can change visibility.

Anyone with access to the space can edit a shared board’s configuration — columns, display fields, and saved filters. There is no per-user permission lock on board edits.

More detailed permission controls are planned for a future release. For now, if a team member needs their own view without affecting the shared board, they can save it as a new board using the Save as a new board option.
