Display fields

Display fields control what information appears on each card. You choose exactly which Jira fields to show — assignee, priority, labels, story points, custom fields, and more.

Configuring display fields

1. Open the board and click Display (settings icon)
2. Go to the Fields section
3. Add fields from Available fields to Fields in view, or remove them
4. Click the blue Save button in the toolbar to apply changes

Field order

The order in which you arrange fields in the configuration panel determines how they appear on the card, from left to right. There are a few exceptions where position is always fixed regardless of order:

• Summary — always displayed prominently as the card title
• Parent — always shown above the title
• Assignee & Reporter — always rendered in the top-left corner of the card
• Flagged — always shown as a colored corner indicator in the top left

All other fields follow the order you set. Drag fields in the configuration panel to reorder them.

What fields are available?

BetterBoard surfaces every field available in the Jira space:

• System fields: Assignee, Reporter, Priority, Status, Work item Type, Labels, Fix Version, Component, Sprint, Story Points, Due Date, Created, Updated
• Custom fields: Any field created in your Jira configuration — single select, multi-select, Assets, date, number, text, rating, URL, and more
• Synthetic fields: Time in Status, Blockers (see Reference → Field Types)

Fields that don’t have values on a given work item are hidden on that card — empty fields never take up space.

How fields render

Each field type has a specific visual representation designed for scannability:

• User fields (Assignee, Reporter): Avatar with tooltip showing the full name
• Priority: Colored icon (red for Highest, orange for High, etc.)
• Status: Colored lozenge matching Jira’s status categories (blue = In Progress, green = Done, etc.)
• Labels: Small tag chips, up to 3 visible with overflow indicator
• Date fields: Short date format (e.g. “Aug 29”)
• Number fields: Raw number with optional unit
• Option fields: Colored chip using the option’s configured color

Jira Assets fields

Assets fields display linked objects as compact icon-and-label chips. The first two objects appear on the card, with any remaining objects available from the +N overflow. Assets chips are read-only; see Assets fields for filtering, grouping, and the supported drag-to-assign workflow.

Colors for option fields and priorities match what you see in Jira — BetterBoard reads the color configuration from your Jira instance.

Sprint field

The Sprint field displays the active sprint name for the work item. If an work item is in multiple sprints (possible in team-managed spaces), the most recent sprint is shown.

Field configuration in multi-space boards

In multi-space mode, field configuration applies across all spaces. If a field only exists in some spaces, it will show only on cards from those spaces and be hidden on cards from spaces where the field doesn’t exist.

Field merging in multi-space boards

When two spaces have a field with the same name and type, BetterBoard merges them into a single field for ease of use. This means you see one “Priority” field in the configuration even if both spaces have their own Priority field.

Merging affects how options are presented during editing:

• Single-work item edit: only field options relevant to that work item’s space are shown
• Bulk edit across spaces: only options that share the same name across all selected work items’ spaces are available for selection

For example, if your Scrum space has Priority options “Highest, High, Medium, Low, Lowest” and your JSM space has “Critical, High, Medium, Low”, only “High”, “Medium”, and “Low” — the shared names — will be available when bulk-editing work items from both spaces. See Bulk editing for more details.
