Space Settings

Space settings control how Sync for Confluence behaves within a specific Confluence space. These settings let space administrators choose which pages should sync, where they should sync to in Zendesk, and how automatic updates should be handled. Each space can be configured independently, which gives teams flexibility when managing multiple knowledge bases or different content areas.

You can access these settings from the space sidebar: Space Apps → Sync for Confluence

Once the global Zendesk connection is configured, space admins can set up the sync strategy that best fits their documentation workflow.

Configuration Options

Space settings determine the overall sync mode, how pages map to Zendesk sections, and whether the app listens for updates in real time. The available options depend on your license level.

Automatic Sync

Toggle this setting on to allow the app to sync instantly when pages are created, updated, archived, or deleted.

Sync Mode Selection

Sync mode defines which pages in the space will be synchronised to Zendesk. You can choose between syncing the entire space or selecting specific page trees.

Full Space Sync

Full Space Sync is the simplest option. It automatically includes every page within the space and mirrors the structure into a single Zendesk section. This mode is ideal when:

  • You are migrating an existing Confluence space into Zendesk

  • You want a consistent one-to-one mapping for the entire knowledge base

When Full Space Sync is enabled, the app automatically detects the page hierarchy and reproduces it in Zendesk as closely as Zendesk’s hierarchy model allows.

Subtree Sync

Subtree Sync gives you finer control over which content is included. Instead of syncing the whole space, you can choose individual parent pages as sync roots. The app then synchronises the entire subtree under each selected parent page.

Selective Sync is useful when:

  • Only part of a Confluence space should be exposed in Zendesk

  • Different sections of the same Confluence space should map to different Zendesk sections

  • You need more granular control over large or mixed-use spaces

Standard edition limitations

The Standard edition of the app supports syncing one subtree. If you need multiple subtrees and more complex mappings, consider upgrading to the Advanced edition.

Target Section Configuration

Each sync root needs to be mapped to a specific Zendesk section. Choose the appropriate section from the Zendesk section list to determine where your Confluence pages will be published.

Before every sync, the app automatically validates all mappings. If a Zendesk section is removed or becomes unavailable after you’ve configured it, the app will surface a clear warning so you can update the mapping before continuing.

Sync Operations

You can manage sync operations directly from the space settings page. This includes running the first sync, monitoring progress, and recovering from errors.

Manual Sync

The first time you configure a space, you’ll need to run an initial sync. This synchronises all pages that fall under the selected mode (full space or selective).

  • Start Sync: Syncs all configured pages.

  • Force Re-sync: Reprocesses all pages, even if they haven’t changed

  • Cancel: Terminates the current sync operation

  • Progress Tracking: Displays real-time updates of your sync progress

  • Background Operation: The sync continues even if you leave the page, close your browser, or navigate elsewhere in Confluence

Sync logs

The sync logs give you a detailed record of every action the app performs when publishing content to Zendesk. You can see which pages were updated, created, deleted or skipped, along with any warnings or errors that occurred during the process. This makes it easy to understand what happened during a sync and quickly troubleshoot issues when something doesn’t look right.

The sync log is limited to 100 entries.
